The more MP3s you have, the more
likely you are to have duplicates wasting your
precious hard drive space. Granted, you can go
out and buy 15GB hard drives at some wholesale
place, but just like any "spacious"
medium, you'll definitely fill it up and it'll
often happen faster than you expected it to.
Enter the
Duplicate Finder.
First you'll have
to decide what set of files to check for
duplicates-- you can choose from the currently
open folder, the playlist contents, your virtual-drives,
or any combination of the three.
Second, you must
choose what criteria to determine a possible set
of duplicates. The most common is ID3 Title. This
is great if your collection is mostly tagged
files. ID3 Artist and Album options are also
available and come in handy in certain cases. If
your files aren't tagged, then matching by
filename or file size are the tools of choice.
Press Start, and
seconds later, you should have a nice list of
possible duplicates to peruse.
Over the life of
your MP3 collection, you are bound to find
hundreds of megabytes' worth of duplicates, so
don't take this tool for granted :)
