songs and add them to your playlist. Weed out your 112 kbit/s songs or quickly find all
your eighties hits instantly.

box. Helps those extra long filenames squeeze into the dialog box.

It was a tiny yet significant bug.
ShufflePlay 2.02
October 4, 1997

a file from a large directory no longer means unnecessary delay.
- Cache statistics. See what difference a cache makes
and when it's time to flush it.
- Improve efficiency. The cache and
record-retrieval systems were restructured for a minor performance improvement.
- New cache-size increment: 2000. When 1000 isn't
enough and infinity is one too many.
- Replaced "WinPlay3" with "Player" in
interface text. Phasing out the last traces of WinPlay3's glory.
- Confirmation dialog for flushing cache. Ever caught
yourself going "damn!" when you flushed the cache? I have.
- 36 new ID3/WinAMP genres. New genres ranging
from Christian Rap to Native American. Don't yell at me-- I'm not the one making
these damn things up.
- Decide what a double-click performs with menus. Choose
from add/remove, auto-play, or select-all. You'll find it one of the best features of the
new version.
- Play/Stop MP3 from Properties window. Well, it would
be nicer to control everything from there, but that would be pushing it.
- Rename Wizard. Go from a collection of
"abcde~1.mp3"s to "(Artist Name) Song Title.mp3"s. And you can do
gigabytes of songs all in one sweep.
- Slicker inventory system. A new tabular format for
your friends to feast their eyes on.
- Selection Wizard. Highlight songs in directories,
playlists, or both by keyword found in the ID3 tags.
- Various minor interface improvements. You may or may
not notice them. They're that subtle.
- Problems corrected from ShufflePlay 2.01
- Infinite-entry bug. A simple coding
error prevented people from taking advantage of this cache-size setting.
- Wipe-tag didn't work.
- Window control remote didn't work.
- Cache limited to 250 items at startup. Thanks to the
new Cache Stats, I could locate and correct this bug.
- On unsuccessful delete, removes the item. A
simple fix.
- Doesn't refresh status bar statistics after deletion. Again,
a simple fix.
- Mouse goes crazy after using right-click menus. Turns
out it took a internal fix from Microsoft to take care of this problem.
Early History
- Version 1.X - Fall 1996 - Very simple
file-loader frontend to WinPlay3. Handled large lists, wrote 8.3 format lists, and--most
importantly--shuffled the list for you (the original purpose).
- Version 2.00 - The bigger and badder series
geared toward the serious MP3 collectors.
- Beta 1-5 - December 1996 to April 1997 - A
series of interface redesigns, optimizations, and new features.
- Beta 6 PreRelease 1-3 - April 1997 to June
1997- As much as I allowed for bugs and holes in the first Betas, Beta 6 was full of so
many new things and new holes. It took a couple months to develop. You wouldn't be using
it today and probably think it was dead if I hadn't decided on distributing
PreReleases to show that this program was still in development.
